Values life, death, and what it means to “be” in the world. They use a base 8 counting system, which means they count from 1-7, 10-17… and so on. Funerals consist of pushing a deceased tonechi down a river in a boat. This has fed the fertile soil along the floodplains of the delta. Tonechi sweets were invented from some of the river’s reeds, fermented into an astringent, sticky sugar syrup. This sugar syrup is then watered down and distilled further to make a type of rum, which is also used as an ingredient, and for removing bacteria in foods.
Tonechis arose in the floodplains of the Tonepo Delta, on the planet of Kinina, fighting small conflicts between each other over resources, and access to food. Groups of Tonechis moved elsewhere on the continent, founding smaller cities, and discovering new foods to feed their rapidly growing populations. As Tonechis settled their lands, they watched the world change around them. The river waters shifted the soil of the Tonepo Delta, so they built stone embankments to form permanent islands in the delta. This environment gave the Tonechis time to ponder their places, and consider how outside changes affects the life and deaths of their families. Old Kinina Year 0: The development of the Tonechi culture and philosophy, with meetings of many families and collectivization, eventually formed a large coalition that spanned the length of the river’s fertile banks. 0 - 3,500 oKY: Despite their new coalition of family groups and tribes, they didn’t explore much off the continent, focusing on exploring the aspects of their culture, and their lives. They discovered art and music and simple machines. Old Kinina Year 3,500/ New Kinina Break Year 0: As they were slowly getting on their paws, they witnessed the loss of their second moon, a smaller rock , which orbited their large primary moon. This crash caused a legendary meteor shower, which rained down upon the land. The tonechis decided to hinge their entire calendar around this year, called the Year of the Break. Some of the fragments of these moons contained uranium, which were later used by scientists to prove that uranium was common in their solar system. 0 - 626 nKBY: Early scientists and engineers discovered technologies such as steam engines, and radioactive substances for use in decorations. Eventually, a small company called Tokadji Mechanical Beasts of Burden (Later rebranded to Tokadji Rail) invented the first trains in 514 nKY, which served the Tonechis well as they rapidly industrialized. 627 nKBY The delta is soon divided up by some of the oldest families, and they all decide to send their representatives to meet together at the river's end. This eventually evolves into a parliamentary system, with an Legislative Chamber and an Executive Chamber. At the end of the river, the Tonechis build a collection of government buildings, where representatives stay. There they pass laws that affect the entire continent. 630 - 777 nKBY: Tokadji Rail soon grew to become a global transit agency. One could get from one side of the planet to the other in a sleeper car in about a week for just a days pay! They could also buy food directly from their trains, and enjoy luxuries such as telecommunications and electricity. The rapid growth of Tokadji Rail coincided with the invention of nuclear fission, and nuclear energy. They would soon branch into building reactors and refining nuclear resources. Their trains became cleaner and their influence grew! Eventually they started sending lobbyists to the government… Kinina, and its solar system, have a very high amount of radioactive materials, which caused many species to eye the planet up for taking. First Contact was made in the year 772, and a major celebration was to be held in the year 1000. This did not happen.
